This! Book! Is! Important!!!
In this day and age of "newsworthy" [sexual] harrassment and assault, consent is a subject that seems to be shrouded in mystery and confusion. But fear not! What Does Consent Really Mean is an easily understood guide to consent (in comic format!) that should be read by everyone, especially if you're a young adult, someone who has difficulties saying no when uncomfortable with a situation you're in, or if you're a cis male. Sorry (not sorry) guys, gotta call you out and keep you accountable and all that.— From Avery
A comprehensive starter about consent - which should always be an enthusiastic YES. This graphic novel features a group of teens discussing what they think consent means after learning a classmate was a victim of sexual assault. They ultimately affirm that all relationships should make both participants feel confident, healthy, and fulfilled. A must-read. For everyone. Full stop.— From Niki
"Consent is not the absence of 'NO', it is an enthusiastic YES "
While seemingly straightforward, Tia and Bryony hadn't considered this subject too seriously until it comes up in conversation with their friends and they realise just how important it is.
Following the sexual assault of a classmate, a group of teenage girls find themselves discussing the term consent, what it actually means for them in their current relationships, and how they act and make decisions with peer influence. Joined by their male friends who offer another perspective, this rich graphic novel uncovers the need for more informed conversations with young people around consent and healthy relationships. Accompanying the graphics are sexual health resources for students and teachers, which make this a perfect tool for broaching the subject with teens.
