Henry is a former small business consultant and bookstore owner as well as an avid skier and vegetable gardener. When not reading Colin Cotterill, Elizabeth Strout, or Nick Harkaway, he continues to study Italian. On the side Henry teaches dancing and, with a business partner, has run a weekly dance for the past 13 years. He is one of the buyers that waltzes around the used book area.
This is one of my all time favorite books. The writing is so stunning in this collection of linked stories that I literally gasped several times. I love randomly dipping into it, especially after reading some not so great books, to remind myself what great writing is all about.
This is another one of my all-time faves. It is "a lush, literary epic about love, beauty, and the world at war". It tells the life story of Alessandro Giuliani before, during and after WW1. You might be daunted by its 800+ pages, but it's well worth the effort.Take a couple of days off and settle in while Alessandro tells you his story.
