While many of us at TPB enjoy birding, I never thought that it could be a hot date! But add in two earnest characters, a delightful rendition of the fake date trope, and a spice level that triples in the second half of the book?! There's no way Birding with Benefits wasn't going to be my favorite romance of the year (and a great reference list for new hobbies)!

I am an enormous fan of T Kingfisher's fantasies, her tales are filled with humor and love. However, her roots lie in Southern gothic horror, roots so deep that her characters' ties to land and family stretch far enough back that they spring from something not necessarily of this world.  If Sam digs deeply enough in the garden, she may just uncover her family's dark history.

Carr’s relationship to the cats in his life has in many ways shaped his identity. By turns touching and tragic, his memoir–while a bit weird at times–is a testament to a truly special bond. I’d venture to say that no one has ever loved a cat quite like Carr has.

Lila (Oprah's Book Club): A Novel By Marilynne Robinson Cover Image
$17.00
ISBN: 9781250784032
Availability: On our shelves now at one or more of our stores
Published: Picador - August 4th, 2020

So so very good. Robinson weaves the stories of a young Lila Dahl drifting through depression-era America and her later relationship with small-town reverend John Ames (of Robinson's Gilead) in a read that is strikingly unputdownable. This is a book that interrogates our ideas of love, loneliness, and memory in ways I've never encountered or had thought possible.

The lead singer and songwriter for influential bands like Bikini Kill and Le Tigre, both praised and chastised into starting a band by Kathy Acker, and the sort of woman who screams back at misogyny whilst learning from her own past, exclusionary mistakes - Kathleen Hanna, I really wanna be your best friend.

This book is brilliantly loud and bright in colors, content, characters, and music. Perfect for the tender misfit teen in your life, or even the nostalgic formerly rowdy adult (like me, with ear plugs and back pain from standing too long at the back of shows.)

A strange and eerie little book, written through a series of HR reports and interviews with crew members aboard a spaceship, orbiting an unusual planet that houses a string of unusual objects that suddenly appear on the spaceship.  The human and humanoid crew begin to feel curious. Awareness and confusion seeps in the humanoids; the humans begin to remember snippets of another life. Soon, tension is drenched in existential dread and mutiny comes aboard. Perfect for the freaky weird readers who love to feel despair.
